If you want the background on this you need to check out my first post on the topic of Funny Signs. Suffice it to say, funny signs seem to follow me wherever I go. In this second installment of “Funny Signs” I’ve included what is my favorite sign to date!

Funny Sign: Do Not Crush

Context: This photo was taken out the window as our family was driving through Oklahoma City. In case you can’t read the text on the crushed box, it says “DO NOT CRUSH”. Classic!

On the bright side, at least the fragile contents won’t be falling off the truck!

Funny Sign: Don’t Climb on Rocks

Context: This sign was posted beside a display at the Sight and Sound Theater in Branson, MO.

To me, this sign really brings up more questions than it answers. I mean, I can see how someone might decide that climbing on the rocks would be an okay thing to do … but why are we including the lamb and the lion? And why do we not include the other parts of the exhibit? Is it okay for me to traipse over the plants?

On a more serious note, while we were there we watched their production called “Joseph” … very impressive!

Funny Sign: Not For Sale

Context: This sign was posted on an item found among merchandise at a country-store-kind-of-a-place.

I’m not ashamed to say that this is probably my favorite sign of all time! What a beauty! I honestly don’t know where to start with this one!

I guess my first question is this: “What the heck is that thing?” And seriously, who, after looking at it thinks to themselves “Ooooh! I’d love to buy that!”

And if the whatever-it-is isn’t for sale then why is it sitting on a shelf in the store beside a bunch of stuff that is for sale? If you don’t want to sell it then wouldn’t it be easier to move to a storage room in the back rather than put a sign on it?

Finally, I can’t help but notice that this is the DISPLAY unit!  Believe me when I say there were no others on the shelf … so I guess they used to have a lot of them and then sold out!

One of the reasons signs are so funny is that they are written by people … and people are funny! A year or two ago I decided to start taking pictures of signs that I find humorous. It is surprising to me that not everyone finds these signs as funny as I do. For that reason I feel compelled to explain why these are funny to me. I understand that if you have to explain why something is funny, it may not be funny! You be the judge.

Funny Sign: Keep Door Closed

Context: Sign on the door of an ice-maker located in the faculty lounge right next door to my office.

So … how am I supposed to get ice?

Funny Sign: Don’t Open Boxes

Context: I’d rather not say where this sign was posted. But I don’t think context is necessary to appreciate it.

When I first took a picture of this sign I was proudly displaying to my family members. My daughter who was 10 years old at the time responded: “Doesn’t that mean ‘don’t open boxes’?” Yes … yes it does.

Of course the “PLEASE” that precedes the bold and underlined “DO NOT” is delightful as well.
